After last week's pummelling at Gedling & Sherwood this was a must win game. I have to admit to only seeing a handful of overs having spent my afternoon at the iPro (1 all with Charlton since you ask but I will spare you my analysis of the soccer). Our Seconds like a chase usually helped by the bowlers restricting the opposition, so being put in was not plan A. However, Danny Hammond (until out hitting a simple catch to square leg) and Alan Lewis got things underway with 67. "Chewy" is in a purple patch with his 76 following up 113 not out and 55 - 14 4's, 2 6's off only 83 deliveries. EB were still very much in the contest at 127-4 and 170-7 so it is pleasing to report Ryan Duggan's first 50 of the season boosted the score to just over 200. Last week Ryan just could not get any momentum to his innings so this run a ball contribution made up almost entirely of boundaries would have been most satisfying for him. The visitors started fairly well getting to 59-1 in 13 overs. Skipper Eddy G put this largely down to his defective radar. No matter, wickets fell regulary from this point (2 for Vivek as he and Taimoor put in good spells). When I arrived it was approx 112-5 with overs fast running out. Back came Eddy G and Usman Aziz and apart from a couple of crunching blows by James Foster the end came rapidly. Great to see Uzzy lead the team off for his first 2nd XI "5 fer" although Danny's attempts to trip him were not very kind. Uzzy is a smiley chap and all the more so after super figures of 11.3-3-19-5 plus excellent "A" level results and a place at Nottm Uni. Well done to him! As to Division "D", Fordians do us a favour being battered by Underwood. so we leap frog them but not Radcliffe who have 211 to our 206. All to play with 2 games left with the final fixture v champions elect Bramcote looking pretty tastey.
