How do you lose 10 tosses in a row? One at a time is the answer, of course, but 10? Such has been the run of bad luck for Eddy George. However, he was pleased that Collingham 2 went for first digs anyway and they were always held in check, especially by the skipper (12 overs, 2-21) and the returning Kamran Ul-Haq, who nagged away most effectively. A late clatter of wickets held the visitors back from a more challenging target. The consensus was the wicket was true but slow, but no surprise after recent rains. The Seconds have not been batting well as a team so changes were made at the top. However, Eddy G departed failing to clear a very deep point. No matter, Ryan Duggan, driving forcefully was up and running. At first down was Nick Hobbs. This was a season's first as he has been laid low by ligament damage playing rugger. I am told he had not had any practice and his scratchy start exposed that. No problem though as he was soon playing shots all round the wicket in his customary languid style. As the target reduced steadily he took total control with power and touch combined in an unbeaten 82. Well done to Ryan for playing the situation well. A match winning unbeaten partnership of 139 - a pleasure to watch for those of us who remember them playing in the youth teams here and always thought they would make a mark for the adult teams. A first win in what seems like ages. Soundly placed in 5th in "D". Thanks to Mrs G for the teas and to Ruby for her immaculate scoring.
